Attendance Boundary Review Listening Sessions
Redmond, Ore. - Redmond School District is continuing its school attendance boundary review process and is inviting community members to attend upcoming listening sessions to learn more and share feedback.
The district began the boundary review in December by informing families and launching a community survey to gather initial input. The process is designed to evaluate school attendance boundaries as Redmond continues to grow and enrollment patterns change across the district.
Uneven residential housing development throughout the community has resulted in increased enrollment at some elementary schools while other schools remain steady or below capacity. Conducting a boundary review helps the district plan for future growth while supporting balanced school populations and consistent learning environments.
Redmond School District is partnering with MGT, an education consulting firm, to provide updated data driven enrollment forecasts and help develop potential boundary adjustment scenarios. These projections examine current enrollment as well as five and ten year trends.
Current projections show that some elementary schools may exceed capacity if boundaries remain unchanged. Sage Elementary School is expected to reach approximately 120% of its capacity by 2030 and 126% by 2035. Tom McCall Elementary School is projected to reach 121% of capacity in 2030 and 129% by 2035. In contrast, Terrebonne Community School and Vern Patrick Elementary School are projected to remain below capacity throughout the forecast period.
Redmond School District continues to see enrollment growth at a time when some districts across the country are experiencing decline. With a growth rate of 2.1% this year, Redmond is currently the only district among the 20 largest districts in the state showing positive enrollment growth. Last year, Redmond had the largest enrollment growth of 1.0%, among the top 25 largest districts.
Throughout the process, Redmond School District is using several guiding principles including balancing school utilization based on current and projected enrollment, minimizing the number of students impacted by boundary adjustments, maximizing proximity to home and walkability, maintaining feeder patterns when possible, considering transportation impacts, and minimizing disruptions to special programs and student populations.
Community members are encouraged to attend one or both of the upcoming listening sessions to learn more about the process and share their perspectives.
Community Listening Sessions:
Monday, March 16 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tom McCall Elementary School
Tuesday, March 17 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sage Elementary School
Community feedback will help inform the development of potential attendance boundary adjustment scenarios before recommendations are presented to the Superintendent and the Board of Directors later this spring.
